New dam on the Nathan River, at Taroom in Queensland in centre of feverish coal seam competition and water demand

The new SunWater Queensland Nathan Dam plan was twice the size of dam plan of 18 years ago. The plan to build a new dam on the Nathan River was to enable new thermal coal exports to Japan, and to fuel a proposed new Queensland coal - ro coal seam fuelled electricity plant. However the advent of coal seam gas had lead to heavy competition for water in Queenskand.
